Terra del Fuoco is an NGO promoted by a movement of young people committed to support the process of European integration, sustaining an idea of Europe based upon the dignity and the rights of persons. Terra del Fuoco believes the constitution of a transnational, federal, solidal subject to be the generational objective of the latest sons of the 20th Century. Building Europe can create an example to other geographical areas, as well as a balancing structure for the whole world.
Therefore, we mainly work in the fields of international cooperation, especially with the Countries of the recent and future Europe, we develop youth programmes of education to European citizenship, and on our territories we promote the integration of migrants, particularly coming from the Countries of our cooperation projects, supporting the composition of a new social background and a new citizenship. Terra del Fuoco adheres in the movement for democratic inclusion and education to citizenship promoted by our partner, Acmos.

Train of Memory: Arrived at its fifth edition, the Train of Memory was born as a research upon our memory and our roots in the time when the direct testimonies of the terrible facts of the World War II start vanishing conclusively. During the diverse editions, the Train was able to make its reflections more mature, until it came to proposing a non-formal educational path between peers to its more and more numerous participants.
The Train of Memory is, first of all, a year-long educational path. It focuses upon four keywords, spelling its timetable also: history, intended as analysis of the World War II phenomenon, of its effects on territories and of the lowest points reached in the recent global history. Memory, intended as personalization, encounter and confrontation with the few remaining witnesses, with the entities working in order to preserve memory, and above all with the places impregnate with it. Testimony, that is the encounter with all the situations that at present show the loss of dignity and human rights, in order not to forget that the “must not to let it happen anymore” depends upon collective effort by everyone, at at last commitment, our proposal for all, in the small ambition of our everyday lives, to be able to look out and contribute not to repeat the mistakes of the past. Train of Memory 2009 will involve this year nearly 4.000 students from all over Europe. www.trenodellamemoria.net
Memobus: The Memobus is a mobile laboratory for education to the History and the Memory of Turin.
The project was born with the intent to educate to History and Memory starting from the crucial importance that places can hold in the narration of the events of a territory. The MEMOBUS will be a laboratory composed by two meetings: dDuring the first meeting, the participants will visit the exposition of the Diffused Museum of Resistance, and, in the home room of the Museum, will elaborate the chronological spell and the main events of the period between 1922 and 1945.
The second meeting is a four-hour tour, with private buses, through the city of Turin. During the tour, the stops at the places of memory will be characterized by theatrical performances, narrating the events happened in that place, useful in order to help the participants in the emotional involvement and identification. www.memobus.com

Il Dado: Since 2005 we work upon the safeguard of a Rom community in Borgaro, nearby Turin. From there, Impreuna (”Together”) was born, a complex of initiatives aimed at promoting the rights and social growth of the community. After the arson that caused the destruction of Cascina La Merla camp in late November 2007 where the Rom were located, we began a regularization process towards the community. A key role is played by cultural mediation activities. We assist underage youngsters in the educational field whereas adults are supported in job-hunting and all bureaucratic issues – due also to the recent membership of Romania gained in the EU. Impreuna has been carried along in collaboration with Turin Province Committee and the Italian Red Cross. Now, thanks to the support by the City of Settimo Torinese, the CRI, Architettura delle Convivenze, the Gruppo Abele and many other subjects, Il Dado (”The Die”) is born: the first experience of auto-restructuring and auto-building addressed to the Rom community in Piedmont. www.terradelfuoco.org
Media/ssistenza: The name of the project synthetizes Mediation and Assistance; the activity concerns the Rom camps in the province of Turin and the surroundings.
The project is divided into two phases. In the first phase, we enter the camps in order to give basic assistance and to let the inhabitants know the operators; in the second phase, a continuous monitoring of the situation will be done, and we will open paths of regularization, school integration, health monitoring, and support on specific themes. The objective is to build a database of resources to support the Roma people in the occupational and housing integration.
The staff is mixed: Terra del Fuoco workers, and Roma persons residing at Il Dado. The latter will help in the mediation with the users, as they know in first person the points of view of the Rom population on the territory; this makes it much easier to approach the persons, as well as to understand their real needs. www.terradelfuoco.org
