“Opening of the Dice”

FLARE member: Terra del Fuoco

The FLARE member Terra del Fuoco makes the second step of the FLARE European Social Campaign in Turin, Italy.

The official opening of the “Dice” (il Dado) to which the institutions of Turin, a FLARE delegation and many other people are invited. The Dice is a hosting community for Roma families (8 at the moment) and FLARE volounteers (EVS). The Dice project is unique on the entire Italian territory: it is based on a two-way relationship between the host and the guests: the latter are responsible for the reconstructuring and maintenance of the building, whereas Terra del Fuoco supports them in the employment and administration processes.

The programme started in the early afternoon with a five-a-five soccer tournament and a theatre exhibition by the Roma children who live at the “Dice”. The official opening of the “Dice” occured around 5:00 PM. Luigi Ciotti (President of Libera), Aldo Corgiat (mayor of Settimo), Michele Curto (President of FLARE and Terra del Fuoco). Italian Red Cross and Fondazione San Paolo delegates were also present, whose support has been essential for the implementation of the project. Many journalists and Settimo citizens attended the ceremony.

FLARE delegates enjoyed dinner offered by the Red Cross. After dinner, a concert by Orchestra di Ritmi Moderni Arturo Piazza took place  giving a end to a very important day for the fight against racism and for the promotion of a unique way for the social inclusion of immigrants.

The programme:

March 22nd
2:30 PM: five-a-five football tournament “Dai un calcio al razzismo” (”Kick racism off”) at the Parish S. Vincenzo de Paoli, v. Milano 59, Settimo.
6:00 PM: official inauguration, ribbon-cutting, and benediction of the house. The ceremony is celebrated by Luigi Ciotti, Silvio Caretto, and Lucian Rosu (Romanian Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross, Turin).
19:30: buffet dinner, at the Parish Hall.
21:00: theatrical performance of the children, care of M. Fabbris and E. Ruzza.
21:30: concert - Orchestra di Ritmi Moderni Arturo Piazza, Bruskoi Prala

Moreover, at Il Dado (via Cottolengo 2) from 3:30 to 9:30 PM it will be possible to visit the photo exhibition by Ivo Saglietti, awarded many national and international prizes, between which, the World Press Photo.

March 23rd
9:00 AM: seminar “Social housing, social inclusion and fight against racism: Il Dado, a possible solution”. Council Hall of the City of Settimo, piazza Vittorio Veneto 4, Settimo. Pre-recorded Broadcast on the satellite channel RAI News 24.
1:30 PM: visit to Il Dado, buffet lunch.
